Creative Inspire Digital 5.1 5500

A winning 5.1 speaker system.

Luke Peters

The Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500 system looks like every other Creative speaker package going, but includes an external Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder as an extra.

Up to three devices, such as a DVD player, games console or PC, can be attached via optical, co-axial or line-in ports.

Although the five satellite speakers sound clear, the subwoofer doesn't sound great when using the line-in source.

Connect via optical or co-axial and you might want to warn the neighbours; the sound is terrifying for such a small system.

A nice touch is the ability to adjust the sound level of each speaker so if the bass is too loud, you can turn it down without reducing the volume of the whole system.

A remote control allows you to alter volume, switch input selection or trigger a 'dynamic mode' for a fuller sound.

It looks great and audibly it's a winner - perfect for those wanting to add 5.1 sound to their PC, DVD player or games console.
