The USB Desktop Tanning Centre lets you tan whilst you type.

20 Apr 2007

Now don’t get us wrong, we love the summer, and the fact that it has been trying to sneak its way into our lives this month is a welcome intrusion.

However, we are sure you’ll agree that the one bad thing about such an early arrival is that we are not prepared.

Usbtan_2No were not talking about clothes- they can easily be sorted with a quick click on ASOS at your desk - not that we do that or anything Mr Boss- we are just talking about a friend of a friend…. Ahem.

Anyway, before we dig our hole deeper than we have, and security comes to escort us from the building let us get to the point.

So no, we’re not talking about clothes but about the tan, because there is nothing worse than wearing that new ASOS top with white pasty arms and faces.

Of course, there is always the sun tower but if like us, you loath the 7 minutes of standing and rotating like a cooking chicken then the USB Desktop Tanning Centre, created by ThinkGeek, is a perfect alternative.

Now again we are not encouraging you to do naughty things whilst you are working (reading Tech Boutique is ok because it’s educational) but we couldn’t resist telling you about it.

The USB Desktop Tanning Centre has two base units that attach to either side of your monitor each with 4 WOLFFE Ultra-violet 100 watt bulbs (that’s a lot of tanning quality). It also has a variable rate knob for those who are fair or dark.

If this wasn’t enough it also comes with those goggle thingies they make you wear.

Sound too perfect? Well we have just realised it is.

Being gullable we tried to buy it – for home use of course – only to be told it was a trick.

Oh dear, it’s nearly as bad as finding out that Santa isn’t real.

SoHo leather jacket will make your laptop look hunky

18 Apr 2007

What do Tom Cruise in Top gun and Danny Zuko in Grease both have in common?

Yep that's right, they both look darn good in leather jackets.

Now, were not saying everyone can just swing a leather item on and look good, but  if you are a laptop the leather SOHO line available from iSkins, may just make you look that extra bit special.

Soho_2 Techbotiquettes, a word of warning - this jacket won't turn your lovable laptop into a leather clad hunk. However, it will protect it from the bumps and bruises of everyday life - as long as it isn’t bigger than 15” (Goodness even jackets want small people.)

The bruise control lies in the protection - the Soho range features a multi-layered design that consists of a durable outer layer, a reinforced padded centre and a plush inner lining – oh er missus.

All three features then work together, like a group of burly  bodyguards,  to encase the laptop and keep it safe from the dangers of everyday life. Hmm - perhaps Prince Will’s should replace his entourage with one of these now that he is newly single.

The Crystal Chick – A blinging marvellous site

11 Apr 2007

Come on admit it, we all like a bit of bling – well we wouldn’t be girls if we didn’t like a bit of sparkle now and again, and whilst diamonds are a rich girl’s best friend, Swarvoski crystals are ours.

Silverbetty_crystal_chick_3 So imagine our glee when we stumbled across a newly launched site that encrusts a range of gadgets in these little gems.

Yes, yes we know, there are hundreds of companies exploiting our little buddies and doing the same thing but what makes The Crystal Chick so different is the fact that all items can be personalised to suit your tastes so you can be as bling or as subtle as you like.

Now we are usually quite calm but we nearly had to be escorted out of the building whilst on this site - jumping chimpanzees are clearly not allowed in the Techboutique office.Bling_mouse__the_crysatl_chick_4

The site is like a treasure chest. As well as the standard encrusted earphones it also contains other treasures such as jewel encrusted mini mice (keep your eyes peeled for a review later on this month) and iPod Nano covers with Swarovski cartoon characters – oh dear someone hide our credit cards now.

The LG Prada has landed...in the highstreet

11 Apr 2007

Good news girls! You no longer need to brave the snobby assistants in Bond Street or the tempting food hall in Harrods to get your hands on Prada.

Lg_prada In fact all you have to do is downgrade to upgrade because the LG Prada phone is now available across high street mobile phone shops such as Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U.

Yep that’s right, designer at uh, highstreet stores.

But before you get excited there is of course a catch, because like any designer trinket worth having there is a waiting list - if you still don't know why this phone is the sparkle of everyones eye we suggest you read up sharpish.

We can’t currently tell you how long it is but for a phone such as this we can imagine you might be waiting for a while, oh well you know what they say about good things coming to those who wait….. Well it’s always kept us calm in the MacDonald’s drive through queues.

The Champs Elysees laptop bag feeds our handbag addiction

05 Apr 2007

Techboutiquette’s we have to apologise for neglecting you the past week, we tried to escape to Mexico with the Lin and Leo lapbag but we got caught.

Champsbbsdl_2 But fear not, we are back safe and sound now, coincidently with news about another funky laptop bag.

The Champs Elysees is a quilted satin purple bag from MetStyle and fits any 14” laptop. It also comes equipped with ultra-shock absorbing memory foam for those of us with butter fingers.

The side of the bag has two small padded pockets, perfect for holding CDs, DVDs or other smaller items - that'll be our lippy then. And for those of us who like to keep the whole contents of our make up bag on us there is also a handy zipped mesh area on the iniside too - genius.

Hmm we see trouble ahead, because this bag is quickly becoming one of our favourites and we all know what happens when this is the case - yep, you better start  raising some bail money for us.

For those who do not fancy running accross Mexico, the bag is priced at £35 and available from Laptop Stuff.

The Si750 – A mouse that we will be keeping close to our chests

26 Mar 2007

Fashionistas get the T-shirts and kids get the coloured wrist bands, but we gadget girls have definitely got the best deal when it comes to helping raise money for breast cancer.

The Si750 wireless pink mouse has been produced in support of the Breast Cancer Campaign, with 10 per cent of its sale price going to the charity.

Yes we know its pink and goes against all our beliefs, but this mPink_mouse_3ouse is definitely something we can write about without feeling dirty.

As well as the profits going to an excellent cause, it seems that this mouse has more brains and stamina than Jerry -  as in Tom and ….. for those who have not yet woken up. Well being pink it must be a girl so that kind of explains the brains part but the technology also helps;

Not only has it been designed to give up to six months of battery life but it has also been built with laser wireless technology that makes it easier to control – hmm wonder if technology can be used on other halves too.

Still not convinced? Well how about if we told you that this little rodent has also been sculpted especially to fit around our dainty girly hands. Yep sorry boys you read right, this mouse is specially for the ladies - no matter how many manicures you have your hands will never be as small and dainty to play with this pink gem.

HANNSapple Television – a bite of a creation

20 Mar 2007

We have written about the wild and wacky TV designs from HANNSpree a couple of times, but its new design really is the apple of our eye.

Hannsapplered_front_doors_open Yes - if you haven’t already guessed by the terrible pun – the newest addition to the family is shaped like an apple, hence its rather creative name HANNSapple.

Now it would be easy to mistake this creation for a GM mutation as the 9.6” TV screen is tucked away behind the doors which house the speakers. And believe us the company have not gone for a subtle look either.

Instead they have gone all out and created a red television casing complete with rubber shaped leaves and a brown rubber stem.

Hmm on the bright side, we suppose it’s not often you can say you have a view of the big apple from your living room is it?

Review: The Lin and Leo Lapbag

19 Mar 2007

We were extremely pleased when the Gods at Laptopstuff answered our prayers and kindly donated a green 15” lapBag to us – well for the week anyway.

Not ones to waste time with such a precious object we started using it straight away and we must say we were tempted to make a runner with it. But being good natured girls we decided against it – well tickets to Mexico are just too expensive these days.

Newgreenwr_2 Unlike guys who post their pictures on the internet, the lapBag is even more gorgeous in real life than it is in its pictures, and resembles the kind of designer bag we would beg steal and borrow to get our hands on.

The leather is soft and the straps padded which makes it more comfortable when having to carry heavy laptops or objects.

As well as the laptop case that fits into the bag, there are a number of compartments available for holding lots of bits and bobs. This includes two front pockets, front and back zip compartments and two pockets inside the bag. With the laptop case inside there is also sufficie nt room to put in a pair of shoes and a couple of pieces of clothes too.

Although we ended up having to discard the actual laptop case as the laptop we were using was too big we felt safe putting it into the bag without any protection - the satin lining is the type we wished our sheets were made out of, i.e. soft and silky so we were confident that our laptop wouldn’t be subjected to any scratches.

We were also impressed with the bags straps that didn’t look like they would snap or crumble under the weight of our heavy laptop monster - once again proving that this bag really is full of designer qualities.

As far as the bag is concerned we were mightily impressed, it was just a shame we reviewed it with such a heavy laptop.

Oh well second time lucky - we welcome any donations for small, light girly laptops.

Verdict: 5 (Clive Owens)

Clive_5

After lusting over the LapBag for so long we were pleased to see that the arrival of it was not an anticlimax.
Although we previously grumbled about the pricetag, the dual purpose of the bag does indeed make it good value for money - as it doubles up as spacious weekend bag. However if you are taking it overseas we recommend you use it as hand language – no, not because it won’t withstand the pulling a shoving from the airline men, but because you never know who may be lurking to swipe it off the baggage carousel….
