Samsung 240T

Not only one of the largest flat screen monitors available but a high-definition TV as well.

Samsung is keeping up the pace with frequent updates to its range of flat-screen displays. Its latest release is the 240T which, at 24in, is one of the largest flat-screen monitors currently available.

The 240T provides excellent image quality, and overcomes one of the traditional problems associated with LCD technology. Many LCDs provide relatively slow screen refresh speeds, which can lead to blurring. However, Samsung has halved the standard LCD response time to just 25ms, which should ensure that even gamers get a clear, sharp image at all times.

Samsung has also equipped the display with a useful range of input options. There are both analog and digital connectors for use with a PC or Mac, as well as connectors for composite and S-Video input. You can switch between PC or video input and the 16:9 screen ratio and 1920 x 1440 resolution allow the monitor to act as a high-definition TV screen as well.

You also have the ability to mix and match computer and video images in various ways. The 'picture in picture' feature allows the monitor to accept a video signal from an external source such as a VCR or camcorder and display it in a window on your PC desktop. Then there's the 'picture by picture' feature which splits the screen down the middle with the Windows desktop on one side and video on the other.

Samsung is hoping that this range of features will capture the widest possible range of users, from financial dealing rooms to video editors and CAD/CAM designers.

The 240T's one drawback is that at just under £4000 it's a lot more expensive than some of the 22in LCDs that are currently available, suggesting that well-heeled corporate users are most likely to be its target. However, the 240T's combination of image quality and versatile input features still make it attractive.
