Deloitte crowns business boomers

Business advisory firm Deloitte has published its latest list of technology movers and shakers, with internet companies dominating the top 50 fastest growing firms.

The Deloitte 2009 Technology Fast 50 awards add a little bit of polish to firms' already pretty good financial years, applauding as it does massive growth in business and revenues.

This year's clear winner was Distribution Technology, a firm that shifted so much financial software that it probably needs to eat its own dog food. Distribution Technology fought off stiff competition to announce pretty impressive 18,225 per cent growth. Average growth amongst the other 49 was 2,585 per cent, which is less amazing, but still impressive given the current financial climate.

Distribution Technology chief executive, Ben Goss believes that things can only get better and is probably already looking into buying a trip on a space shuttle. "Most large financial institutions are looking to engage with their customers across multiple channels not just face to face but over the phone and online too. Our technology is uniquely placed to support them in this. As we grow our relationships so we will grow our business," he said.

However, it's not all good news for software firms. Deloitte found that they were losing standing to digital services companies, such as those offering mobile gaming, DVD delivery, marketing services, and other modern day essentials.

David Halstead, Deloitte partner, said, "The 2009 Deloitte Fast 50 provides a fascinating view of the evolving structure of the UK's tech sector. The importance of the web is clear and these companies have seen some impressive growth."
