How to order your Nexus One today from the UK

Judging by some of the comments we've been getting on our news story heralding the US launch of Google's Nexus One smartphone, there's some confusion around whether UK customers can actually get their hands on one today.

Well, as Google has said, the answer is definitely a yes, although not if you want it on a contract with Vodafone - so far the only network operator who is slated as a partner on this.

So for those keen to part with $529, or around £330, for an unlocked version of the handset, go to www.google.com/phone and select the top option - Nexus One Phone. You'll need a Google Checkout account, of course, but the process is relatively painless.

We can't, however, tell you how long it will take for this massively hyped handset to finally cross the Atlantic to your doorstep. But stay tuned with V3.co.uk for any breaking news about availability of Nexus One phones on a contract with Vodafone.

<p>But that's not the whole story is it? On top of the £330(ish, depending on exchange rate) there will be courier charges, import duty and a huge whack of VAT based on everything else added together. Better to wait & see what price it is eventually available sim-free in the UK, then toddle off to the Apple store and buy an iphone for £440?</p>

<p>I checked this in detail last night. You can get it in UK and they ship with DHL. Shipping to UK cost $30 and they also want to charge you $20 for the UK adapter but this is optional and I'm sure you can get a cheaper UK adapter here. Possibly, you'll have to pay VAT at 17.5% at UK customs which will bring the cost about $100 more. </p>
