The redesigned BBC iPlayer has finally arrived with a whole host of features including the ability to share programmes with friends on Facebook and Twitter.
As the pink and black colour has remained, on first glance the additional features don't jump out. But taking a more detailed look, users will see fundamental additions including 'Featured' and 'Most Popular' tabs show up.
To make full use of the iPlayer, it's recommend that users set up a BBC iD and thankfully this only takes a minute. After registration is complete, 'For You' and 'Friends' tabs then pop up.
The Beeb's little beauty then remembers things you have watched and is able to compile a list of recommendations. After signing up, it automatically recommended Eastenders to us, spot on there.
Users that sign up to an iD will also be able to share links directly with friends via Facebook and Twitter, spreading the love.
Auntie has also included the ability to let users search programmes by categories and browse what has been on the iPlayer and what is scheduled to be available by channel.
To ensure a better viewing experience, programmes can be downloaded to the desktop so anyone with a slightly dodgy internet connection can watch a show without worrying over the buffering issues.
The 'Favourite' programmes tab means that the iPlayer can be set to automatically download the latest episode of a particular TV show straight to the desktop.
It's not all about TV though as radio fiends will never miss out on their favourite breakfast show again. Shows are uploaded pretty much as soon as they have finished. While writing this we caught up with the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Radio 2
Wonderfully, users who have created a BBC iD mean that they can access their settings from any computer. Take heed Apple.
Video guides featuring comedian Rufus Hound are available to watch, which are insightful and provide a chuckle or two.
Overall, the redesign appears to be tax payers' money well spent and ensures that the iPlayer remains the premier catch up service.
