Al-Qaeda to strike online

  • Tweet this

Osama bin Laden allegedly has succeeded in getting a DSL connection in his cave in Pakistan, and is now preparing a massive denial of service attack that should cripple the internet.

Images At least that is what an Israeli website is claiming, based on "online intercepts".

You should never underestimate crazy people, but I somehow have my doubts about Al-Qaeda's desire to launch a cyber attack. The group traditionally has undertaken attacks that aim to create mass hysteria. An internet attack would mostly affect the world economy. But then again, capitalism believed to be among the group's targets on its quest to bring Islam to the masses.

We can just hope that western security agencies have been anticipating an attack on the internet infrastructure and have their defences ready. In the worst case scenario, we can always just cut off internet access to the middle east.
