Often mistaken for the oldest web browser, Internet Explorer was indeed the browser of choice for many for a number of years. Unfortunately though, as newer versions were few and far between, people began looking for alternatives. One reason IE was so widely used was because it shipped with Windows itself and even with Mac OS until fairly recently. There are now a number of alternatives available including Firefox and Opera, but there are other alternatives based on Internet Explorer itself.

Avant Browser 11.7 is an alternative browser that has a similar look and feel to Internet Explorer, but has a number of extra options. You can deactivate certain elements of web pages, including pictures and flash animation as well as block pop-ups and other advertisements. Worth trying if you're looking for a quick, lightweight web browser.
