Share a digital camera with another user and you do not know how they'll manage your memory card. They may assume that you've downloaded your photos to your computer, erase the card and start taking their own. That becomes a problem and means that you've lost your photos. However, a memory card is a small hard drive and, unless they've written loads of new photos to the card, you should be able to recover some or all of your deleted photos. This theory also applies to lost data on an external hard drive, USB device or similar.06 Nov 2008
