Back in the 90s I was involved with developing Internet software - before Microsoft entered the market - using various developers from different European locations. We used IRC to chat, keep in touch, swap notes and a server to store code and software builds. Back then, using the Internet for collaboration was unheard of, yet it worked. It worked very well. By bringing together some of the best developers from around Europe, we could code and fix bugs quicker than many of our rivals who used much slower in-house development teams.

Gobby 0.4.7 is a cross-platform code and document collaboration tool that will enable users and developers to use the Internet to open, work on and update documents and code from one application. Gobby enables users to chat whilst they work and see, by the way of coloured code, who has added code to a particular document.
