Instead of backing your data to a disc or external hard drive, we recommend a remote server. There's no reason why you can't buy your own. A basic entry-level virtual server can be bought for as little as £3.95/month (see www.webfusion.co.uk/webhosting), which also gets you a free domain and 1.5GB of storage space. At a minimum, there's no reason why you couldn't simply use this storage for hosting your data, rather than a website. You'd then use an FTP tool to access the content and upload or download files.
