Writers and programmers are often required to open or work on documents side-by-side, so that they can be compared. Working with two versions of a particular document open is especially useful for programmers as it enables you to compare documents, making changes when required. It's more beneficial to make changes to a document whilst directly comparing it to a previous version as this also makes it easier to identify how much you have done, without opening a document and trying to identify how far you have got.

WinMerge 2.10.4 is designed so that users can compare and merge documents. This has numerous implications but can also be used to merge old and new parts of documents but its primary function is to compare edited documents, especially if they have been updated by others.
