Writers and programmers are often required to open or work on documents side-by-side, so that they can be compared. Working with two versions of a particular document open is especially useful for programmers as it enables you to compare documents, making changes when required. It's more beneficial to make changes to a document whilst directly comparing it to a previous version as this also makes it easier to identify how much you have done, without opening a document and trying to identify how far you have got. 14 Jan 2009
