Apple's MobileMe promised a lot and initially delivered far less. These promises included push email, so your devices would always have the latest email available, without you having to manually download or automate an email check. Other highlights included the ability to share your MobileMe files with other users and be able to synchronise your Microsoft Outlook contacts and calendars with your MobileMe account. The latter two features have now be included within
MobileMe, so you can share your files with other users and now use MobileMe on your Windows machine to synchronise content.
Apple MobileMe for Windows 1.3 is simply a control panel that you can install on your XP or Vista machine and then open this panel to configure the content you want to synchronise. Good news and bad news: you need iTunes 8.02 installed on your machine to use MobileMe, whether you want iTunes or not. Not a good start. You also can't synchronise bookmarks from either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, both of which are far more popular than Apple Safari for Windows. The good news is that you can now synchronise your Microsoft Outlook contacts and calendars, as well as your Windows contacts, Google contacts and Yahoo addressbook.
