Keeping your drive in top order makes a lot of sense. It's pretty much the only components in your PC that has moving parts. Use your PC all day, or leaving in running 24/7 as part of your network and the drive will be one of the first to suffer from failure, long-term. To get around these issues, it's worth keeping one eye on performance. Make sure the drive is defragmented regularly, keep your data backed up and, when your drive is close to potential failure, clone the content to a brand new drive.04 Mar 2010
